In 2010 we will be moving the Catawba Riverfest to a new location(for directions click here).  The city of Hickory graciously provided a wonderful spot in previous years, but we out grew the parking and the booth space quickly.  For 2010, Lake James State Park has agreed to partner with the Catawba Valley Heritage Alliance and host the Catawba Riverfest.
Lake James

In 2005, Lake James acquired new land expanding them to over 3,000 acres.  With the new property, a new swim beach has been installed, along with plenty of parking space, picnic pavilions and a new bath house; making this the perfect spot for the 7th Annual Catawba Riverfest.

Our hopes are that our presenters will follow us on this move to Lake James State Park.  The date has been set for September 18th, 2010 (for the event poster click here).  This year we will be giving away a 9.5ft Otter XT Kayak in our raffle drawing.  For more info check out our FaceBook page or  this flyer.

Catawba RiverFest is an annual celebration sponsored by the CVHA and a variety of local governmental and non-govermental organizations.  The focus of the festival is to provide everyone with an opportunity to enjoy the benefits of the Catawba River as well as providing an opportunity for local organizations to highlight issues impacting the river.  The festival features music from local artists, food, booths from local organizations, and a water derby.

The festival provides an opportunity for local organizations to provide demonstrations to the public and showcase the services they offer.  The Carolina Raptor Center, Lenoir-Rhyne College, and the Catawba River Keepers were just a few of the organizations that have booths at our festival.  If your organization is interested in having a booth at this year's festival please contact Ranger Nora Coffey at Nora.coffey@ncdenr.gov or you can call her at the park- 828-652-5047.
